“Eu nasci dentro de uma cooperativa de crédito, em 1935. O meu pai foi gerente da cooperativa de crédito e morava dentro do mesmo prédio. Mais tarde, a Caixa Rural criou uma filial, que seria um posto avançado em Nova Petrópolis. Lá, eu passei a ocupar a função de encarregado de escritório. Então, eu assisti a praticamente toda aquela decadência do cooperativismo de crédito, participando de todos os eventos ligados ao sistema Raiffeisen.”

“Em 1980, eu fui convidado a participar de uma comissão de reestrutura do crédito rural, junto ao Ministério da Agricultura. À época, eu representava as cooperativas de crédito e as cooperativas de produção junto à Organização das Cooperativas do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (Ocergs). Nesta comissão, em Brasília, conheci o Mário Kruel Guimarães. Ele era conhecedor do sistema financeiro e me convidou para participar da reorganização das cooperativas remanescentes, visando à criação de uma Central. Eu fui coordenador da comissão de fundação desta nova Central. Em 27 de outubro de 1980, nós fundamos, em Porto Alegre, junto à Fecotrigo, a Cocecrer-RS.”

“I was born at a credit union in 1935. My father was manager of a credit union and
he lived in the same building. Later on, the Rural Bank opened a branch that was to be more advanced, in Nova Petrópolis. I was put in charge of the office there. So I witnessed almost the entire decline of the credit unions and was involved in all the events concerning the Raiffeisen system.”

to restructure rural credit, together with
the Ministry of Agriculture. At that time, I represented both the financial cooperatives and the farm cooperatives at the Organization of Cooperatives of the State of Rio Grande
