A trajetória do Sicredi, com certeza,
deve muito a alguns protagonistas que acreditaram e persistiram na construção da realidade em que hoje se constitui o Sistema. O traçado dessa jornada pode também ser reconstituído pelo depoimento dos personagens que participaram
da história da instituição. A seguir, apresentamos trechos de entrevistas concedidas por lideranças e associados que se juntaram a essa caminhada. Os relatos dos desbravadores se iniciam
com os testemunhos de Mário Kruel Guimarães, Werno Neumann e Roberto Rodrigues, lideranças que exerceram
uma atuação direta na reestruturação
do cooperativismo de crédito brasileiro. Na sequência, em ordem alfabética, os testemunhos dos demais líderes que desempenharam e ainda desempenham um importante papel na história do Sicredi e do cooperativismo de crédito.
It is clear that the path forged by Sicredi owes much to those protagonists along the way who believed in and were persistent in constructing the reality that became Sicredi as we know it today. This journey can be reconstructed from the statements of those who were involved
in its history. Below are excerpts from interviews with members and leaders who travelled this road together. The accounts of these trailblazers begin with Mário Kruel Guimarães, Werno Neumann and Roberto Rodrigues, leaders who were directly involved in restructuring financial cooperativism in Brazil. Their accounts
are followed, in alphabetical order, by the accounts of the other leaders who performed, and continue to perform, an important role in Sicredi’s history and in the history of financial cooperativism in general.
Precursor do cooperativismo de crédito contemporâneo. Conduziu a reestruturação das cooperativas de crédito e a criação da Central de Cooperativas de Crédito do Rio Grande do Sul (Cocecrer-RS). Foi presidente da Federação das Cooperativas de Trigo e Soja do Rio Grande do Sul Ltda. Falecido em 2011.

“O cooperativismo termina sendo, sempre, um instrumento de defesa das pessoas. Quando aqueles produtores se organizaram, nas Caixas Rurais do sistema Raiffeisen, eles o fizeram porque tinham a absoluta necessidade de se organizarem para conseguir manter suas atividades. As cooperativas Raiffeisen eram primorosas, trabalhavam com seriedade e honestidade, era bonito de ver.”
A forefather of modern credit unions, he guided the restructuring of credit unions and the creation of the Rural Credit Union Regional Center of Rio Grande do Sul (Cocecrer-RS). Was president of the Federation of Wheat and Soy Cooperatives of Rio Grande do Sul, Ltd. Died in 2011.

“Cooperativism is ultimately a tool of self- preservation. When farmers organized the Rural Banks under the Raiffeisen system, they did so because they absolutely had to in order to continue their businesses. The Raiffeisen cooperatives were beautiful. They functioned with integrity and honesty; it was a beautiful thing to behold.”
